Charges for SLI|CLT services

VLA’s Signed Language Interpreting and Cued Language Transliterating Service provides professional practitioners in a wide variety of settings. Within those settings, the nature of the work can vary widely as well. Examples include providing services in fast paced college settings, at high-risk medical appointments, for high profile political events, at concerts, plays, and musicals, and for online office staff meetings with 10+ attendees. Each of these examples can be highly demanding, both physically and cognitively. Many require preparation time and even 2 or more service providers. Charges for SLI and CLT services account for these variables.

As part of requesting interpreting and transliterating services, clients complete an intake form. Details provided on the form are used to determine an appropriate charge for the particular interpreting or transliterating request. The charge is formulated to account for interpreter/transliterator the pace and profile of the work, risk inherent of the request, the duration of the need, preparation time, the amount of time between the request and the service need, and whether more than one service provider is required. Providing interpreting and/or transliterating services occurs only after 1) the requester agrees to VLA billing information and service terms, 2) the client receives written confirmation from VLA that interpreters and/or transliterators are available for the assignment.
